MN High School Cycling League Riders Gear up for the 2018 Race Series

On Sun. Aug. 26, racers from across the state of MN will converge at the Schindler's Way Trail in Austin, MN for Race #1 in the Minnesota High School League. Get ready Austin!

“Race 1 at the Schindler's Way Trail in Austin, is an ideal course to start off the race series, “ said MN League Race Director Josh Kleve. “With it's fast and flat terrain, new riders are able to test their skills and experienced riders can test their speed. Plus, everyone is just thrilled to be racing again. It’s going to be a great day of racing.”

Race details, race flyer and a course map are posted on the MN League website.

Racer and Team Growth brings Positive Additions

Back in 2012, the MN League started with 150 riders on 16 teams. Each year, on average, they add 400 new riders to the program. Now, after years of continual growth, they are projected to have 1,500 riders this season with 61 teams, 565 coaches and a 7-race series. Pretty cool, huh?

Simply put, they are getting #morekidsonbikes; and each year it continues to grow.

Due to this dramatic rise in racer and team numbers, MN League has added an additional race to the series, resulting in a 7-race series. Since many of the courses used by the MN League were not designed to handle the over 3,500 racers and spectators, a bye-week schedule was set up to reduce the number of racers on a course.

Two New Courses

Holding a race in different parts of the state helps spark interest in the sport for cities and communities outside of the Twin Cities. This year, the MN League is adding two new trails and locations: Detroit Lakes and Welch, MN.
